A site visit to the factory where SCA Foam Products make Expanded Polypropylene (EPP) provided understanding of the potential of a very interesting material. It is the fully recyclable big brother of EPS, the white packaging material that is used everywhere, yet cannot be recycled.
EPP has outstanding energy absorption, buoyancy, water and chemical resistance, and exceptionally high strength to weight ratio, which makes it incredibly versatile. These properties make it the perfect material for a modular building block. Undercuts have been used to make strong seals to connect the blocks together. The connectors make it easy to build furniture, structures, and toys. The forms are only limited by the imagination.
